* FDA Internal Funding: Critical Path

  • Title and collaborators due July 28
  • Quad chart (1-page proposal) due for division discussion August 17.
  • Full proposal due in October if invited based on quad chart.
  • NIH Par-17-124: Perception and Cognition Research to Inform Cancer Image Interpretation R21 (Exploratory/Developmental Research Grant)
    • Due date is Sept. 26
    • Letter of intent due 30 days before the due date == August 27
  • NIH Par-17-125: Perception and Cognition Research to Inform Cancer Image Interpretation R01 (Research Project Grant)
    • Due date is Sept. 26
    • Letter of intent due 30 days before the due date == August 27
  • Brandon intends to pursue the FDA internal funding and is hoping to get someone to participate as a collaborator. This funding is moderate and would pay for a research assistant.

FDA employees are not eligible to apply for NIH funding, but they can be unpaid collaborators or consultants. Brandon would welcome an invitation to participate in this way on an NIH grant that included eeDAP studies. The NIH grants are brand new and might not have as much competition as more established opportunities.

    Additional discussion:

    • something with a wow factor that comes from collecting data on a 14-head microscope.
    • something that also links to computer algorithms: image analysis program identifies candidate mitoses and ranks them. the pathologists come along and help rank the less definitively ranked cells based on their expertise … improve algorithms.
    • what tasks would be of interest besides mitoses … HER2, other immuno histo-chemical stains?
    • complete different workflow than current eeDAP … track the search and detect process of pathologists on the microscope
