This breakout session will:

Provide an overview to assist participants in understanding and using HD*Calc.

Overview of HD*Calc:

HD*Calc is a statistical software program that generates multiple summary health disparity measures.

HD*Calc can be used as an extension of SEER*Stat, which allows users to import Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) data.

Data such as cancer rates, survival, and stage at diagnosis, which are categorized by groups such as ethnicity, race, socioeconomic status, and geographic area, can be used with HD*Calc to generate 11 absolute and relative summary measures of disparity.

Use of HD*Calc is not limited to the cancer domain. It can be used with:

Any population–based health data, such as from the National Health Interview Survey (NHIS), California Health Interview Survey (CHIS), Tobacco Use Supplement to the Current Population Survey (TUS–CPS), the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), or other data sets.

Breakout Session 2: The New NIH Biosketch Neil Thakur, NIH OD, Karen Peterson, NIH NIBIB, & Bart Trawick, NIH/NLM/NCBI

This breakout session will describe the new format for the NIH biosketch and the reasons behind the change. The breakout session will also describe Science Experts Network Curriculum Vitae (SciENcv), an online tool that applicants can use to generate NIH biosketches.
